Being that this is a castle and that we should be aware of the do's and don'ts of castle life, I thought I would share this list. The love between Queen Gwenivere and Sir Lancelot was, at first said to be 'Courtly love'. Enjoy....
From The Art of Courtly Love by Andreas Capellanus
Marriage is no real excuse for not loving.
He who is not jealous cannot love.
No one can be bound by a double love.
It is well known that love is always increasing or decreasing.
That which a lover takes against the will of his beloved has no relish.
Boys do not love until they reach the age of maturity.
When one lover dies, a widowhood of two years is required of the survivor.
No one should be deprived of love without the very best of reasons.
No one can love unless he is propelled by the persuasion of love.
Love is always a stranger in the home of avarice.
It is not proper to love any woman whom one would be ashamed to seek to marry.
A true lover does not desire to embrace in love anyone except his beloved.
When made public love rarely endures.
The easy attainment of love makes it of little value: difficulty of attainment makes it prized.
Every lover regularly turns pale in the presence of his beloved.
When a lover suddenly catches sight of his beloved his heart palpitates.
A new love puts an old one to flight.
Good character alone makes any man worthy of love.
If love diminishes, it quickly fails and rarely revives.
A man in love is always apprehensive.
Real jealousy always increases the feeling of love.
Jealousy increases when one suspects his beloved.
He whom the thought of love vexes eats and sleeps very little.
Every act of a lover ends in the thought of his beloved.
A true lover considers nothing good except what he thinks will please his beloved.
Love can deny nothing to love.
A lover can never have enough of the solaces of his beloved.
A slight presumption causes a lover to suspect his beloved.
A man who is vexed by too much passion usually does not love.
A true lover is constantly and without intermission possessed by the thought of his beloved.
Nothing forbids one woman being loved by two men or one man by two women.

what an interesting and curious list! Wise in some places yet unintentionally preposterous and bizarre in others! really funny!
So if one goes pale at the sight of one's true love..what does it mean when cheeks flush, pupils dilate and breathing quicken oh so slightly...very uncourtly I should imagine!

Love is probably one of the most ambiguous words in our language... which can be interpreted in so many ways.. My definition of Love fits not on this list!
One line i find interesting 'Love can deny nothing to Love' ..
Interesting list Bonnie, thanks for sharing! I´m not very versed in love matters because... I´ve never been in love stricto sensu. I´ve been infatuated, physically involved, in awe, passionately devoted, blisfully hooked, a drooling idiot beyond redemption, whatever you may call it. But love... love, the real thing, is something alien to my cerebral nature. For the moment.
Um.....If and when you FALL in love, you'll be totally blindsided. It appears out of the blue and when you least expect it....and in the most unlikliest of places....or at least that is what it was like fo rme.
BTW.....I love how you said "For the moment".....Says you haven't written off the possibility!

Problem with love is that......people get hooked on that 'rush' and actually believe they can keep it up. You can't. It's impossible. Then once the 'rush' ebbs.....many of those believers end up looking elsewhere for fullfillment, not even realizing that TRUE LOVE is right there before their very eyes!
It can be a truly sad cycle for the people who constantly need a 'fix' in life.........

I´m not ruling out anything, it´s only that some things seem to have ruled me out, LOL!
I agree the miracle of love is a strange fruit that can blossom in hidden gardens. Think about all the unusual relationships that qualify as love: for instance, I´ve read fascinating things about all those artistic or intellectual women (like Dora Carrington and Elsa Lanchester, to name only two) whose deep love for their homosexual partners went far beyond sex or social conventions... I´m not talking lavender marriages, but the real thing, soulmate heaven no less. Just plain, old fashioned love. The most luxurious commodity there is. Blessed those who paid their price for it, it was worth it no matter the personal cost!
Personaly, I find erotic friendships or heart to heart acquantainces easier to deal with, they´s safer than love, which is too demanding for little cold blooded me. I´ve often thought that I would be the perfect mate for a marriage of convenience... if I didn´t loathe marriage, that is, hehehe...
Ok, I´d better shut my trap now. I´m talking too much. The loathly lady is taking over my split personality today!

I think the Loathly Lady needs a place to speak her mind. And what a lovely, thought provoking mind it is! I love reading your words, be them about our Knight or of any other topic.

As beeing 17 yrs with the same man, i can agree with Bonnie, when the rush ends, it become different, and I think, just after the rush disappears, you can see, whether it was love, or just a chemistry.
Last year I met one man, an I almots fall in love /i just thought so/, and later figured out, this was just a chemistry between us two, nothing physical, nothing x rated, like Bonnie use to say, but it was amazing, actually it was NOT LOVE.
LOVE is what I shares with my hub for more than 17 yrs, no matter how it is called, but it is deep friendship, a feeling of beeing complete sharing one life with him.
sorry NIC, between us two, that might be only a chemistry.................LOL
LOL! A little chemistry with Nic wouldn't hurt anyone.....
As far as Chemistry vs Love.............I'm a true believer that you can have both and with the same man. Also, there are most definitely different kinds of love. One isn't necessarily better in all regards than another either. They are just different.

What always puzzles me is where does it go when it's over? How can you share precious and wonderful things with someone and down the road realize all that feeling is gone. I used to think when young and romantic that having a child with someone would creat a lasting bond. But not so in my case anyway.
No clue where it goes......but goes it does.....Right now I'm truly worried about the future. What happens when the kids are out of the house? Will the lonliness of needing to connect, truly connect, to someone get even worse? Will we find something in common when we really didn't have much in common to begin with? Is this all there is? Does that mean the next 25 years will be horrors of horrors....boring? I guess time will tell.......
I've been truly blessed in having a good marriage to a wonderful man, no doubt about it.....but.....like you said.......where does the spark go? Can you get it back? I just don't know.........
