How is it going Nic Fans?! I am glad you all have welcomed me with open arms and hearts.......even though they are Wild at Heart(s). I was wondering what you all felt about movies that Nicolas was attatched to/dropped out of and how they would of turned out w/ Nic at the helm. I am refering to films like Men of Destiny (The Divide), Electric God, HardBoiled, The Ghost Writer, The Dance, Timeshare, Riot and Liberace. I wonder if these films will ever come to be except the Ghost Writer since Ewan already replaced Nic, but you get my point. I also want to get opinons from posters on weather Nicolas will ever be nominated for an Oscar or win another one in his lifetime. Personally, Nicolas should have 3 noms and at least 2 wins for LLV and Adaptation and a nom for BL: POCNO. What gets me about last year is Matt Damon (who I love) was nominated for a Golden Globe for Informant! while Nic was passed over for a better performance in BL. Matt is an Academy darling though and Nicolas never has been. It's funny how Matt Damon was doing something out of the norm for him in Informant, but Nic was being wackey old Nic in BL so he gets passed over. Nic makes crazy look easy, but when other actors not known for it, get applauded. I hope Nic gets nominated for Hungry Rabbit Jumps or Trespass. Also, do you guys find it funny that Jeff Bridges gets a Oscar nod for True Grit when it is basically word for word remake of John Wayne's classic? Or that he won for Crazyheart when it was merely The Wrestler.....but a year later? Mickey Rourke was robbed for the role in the Wreslter. Also, how was Val Kilmer not nominated for Tombstone as a best supporting. I know I am rambling and this is a strictly Nicolas Cage forum, but I love film and can't help but voice my views and frustrations. Later NICe people.
I think I would find it easier to respond to your posts if you stuck to one topic per posting. My mind can't handle more than one thing at a time!
I think it is quite usual to see an actor's name attached to movie deals that later don't fan out. There are always rumours about stuff like that. Some of the movies you mentioned I have never heard of. One I have heard of, though, is the Riot. I believe that one is not going to happen with Nic. He had more than one option, apparently, and went with another movie. Liberace will be made with Michael Douglas now. And, I am not sure, but I think Time Share was made with other actors. Don't know about the others.
I agree with you about the Oscar noms and awards clcdmb!
I also feel that World Trade Centre deserved more recognition, for me that was a truly standout performance from Nic, and a truly honourable historical piece of filmmaking, although perhaps associating that project with awards of any descriotion would be taking away from it's main intent.
Worth remembering though that there are other awards Nic has received and been nominated for than the Oscar....perhaps those that reflect the views of the public carry equal if not greater weight??
Some of the projects you mention Nic ws attached to as an actor: The Wrestler, Ghost Writer, Riot and Liberace, and others I believe as a producer, but it is always worth remembering that when none of them wer officially confirmed and perhaps runoured on Imdb, we probably only know half teh truth of it, The only ones I feel certin about are The Wrestler, and that Nic stepped back for Mickey Rourke to take the role, because as he said in an interview he was not prepared to go to the physical lengths that were expected of him for that role and that Mickey rourke was the right choice for the part, (honoroale I thought) and Riot, where he sounded quite disappointerd on a radiointerview that that project with John Carpenter was not going to happen.
I have to agree with Lady Trueheart, much as I am partial to the odd braingasm myself your post could do with breaking down a little...it strikes me that perhaps you would like to take a look in our Chamber Of Arts clcdmd, that area is for all off topic non Nic related film discussion!
Thanks for the insight and other forum venue to choose. I actually think that Douglas is too old to play Liberace and doesn't fit his acting range/style. Time Share actually hasn't been made yet and it still in pre production with Will Smith still attatched.....Nic was supposed to be in it w/ him. I always check imdb for updates on past films Nic was attatched to like The Dance, which 50 cent is still going to make. Anyway, have a good day NICe fans.
Hey CLC....nice to see someone else doesn't like the idea of Douglas in the role of Liberace. But if truth be told, I also wouldn't like to see Nic in it either. Somehow the idea just sounds like a bad one to me.
Also....Electric God actually was made! But they changed the name to NEXT and having read the book, I can tell you.....the movie wasn't anything like the book anyway.
Nice to read your thoughts!

Wow, I wasn't aware Next was based around Electric God. I thought it was based on a different Philip K. Dick novel/short story. The original premise of Electric God sounded ways darker than what it became in Next. How that got passed me, I am not sure. Yeah, I couldn't see Nic as Liberace either......the critics like to slam anything he does lately. I don't want to offend anyone, but I am glad Nicolas hasn't played any homosexual characters or dressed in drag for a role. I enjoy Nic being an man's man......albeit quirky and off the wall.
Well, he DID have the cameo in SONNY where he most definitely played a homosexual. LOL! But, I am with you. The man gets slammed every which way for the roles he chooses to play. Lately, I've been thinking that he's pretty much built his career on his own terms and well...his own terms aren't exactly mainstream. In order for him to continue to be successful and to earn top dollar in the industry, I believe it's crucial for him to make a couple of movies where he tows the line and truly goes outside his personal vision.

I think Nic has made great choices in the movies he makes he obviously reads the script and if he can find passion in the role he is to play he follows his heart and does what he feels is right if things dont seem to be 100% right he backs away and finds a new role that fits him he may make mistakes but if you dont make mistakes in life you cant really improve yourself and your creativity so for that reason i cant wait to see the films nic chooses to do and for the ones that have not made it with or without nic then there obviously was a reason and am sure its for the best either way . ( hope that makes sense )
I am glad I am getting good feedback from fellow posters on here. Once Nic get his money situation handled I hope he makes small films like BL: POCNO or an indy comedy. I hope I don't get flamed for what I am about to say but: Do any of you feel that Nic has hurt his chances to work w/ other top A list actors like a Seymore Hoffman or Jermey Renner by making some "bad" film choices lately. I am not saying that Nicole Kidman or Guy Pierce are not A list, but they are kind of a notch below the topline actors. I am not saying Nicolas isn't a top A lister either, but I am glad he doesn't take himself seriously anymore and doesn't care what critics think, but I also like it when he can show he is still fearless w/ roles like BL. I enjoy his "B" movie choices like Wickerman and Drive Angry. I feel that Nic gets critisized unfairly because it seems every movie that isn't Oscar worthy in critics minds, is automatically a failure. I am glad Nic doesn't want to do boring films like Colin Firth. That is just my 2 cents.
Nic has already worked with some of the greatest actors ever like Sean Connery in the rock and the likes of Jhon Travolta , Michael Caine,Charlie Sheen,John Malkovich,Jhon Cussak to name a few most people would love roles alongside the likes of these actors and the actresses he has worked with has well would make the most people jealous. I think his work with the up and coming actors is better in a way for Nic has it shows his ability has an amazing actor to adapt to roles with the legends and he also can take newer actors under his wing and show them a thing or 2 so they become great as well. I am biased as a Nic obsessed fan but i will watch anything that nic does i think nic has reasons for the roles he chooses to take on and i think as a actor you must be happy in a role to do well in it and i think Nic gives 100% whatever he does and that shows in his work from the past for example the role in leaving las vegas to do the preparation for the role is a great in itself it shows dedication .
I agree with virtually everything you have said with a few exceptions. One, I love Colin Firth! LOL!
What I meant about Nic maybe needing to tow the line is that I think he needs to do a few really mainstream movies with directors and let the directors guide him in those rolls because Nic is catching so much flack for all the 'out of the box' roles he has taken on lately. We diehard Nicfans love all of his work and appreciate his rather ecletic taste but he's not terribly popular anymore with the masses and he has to play the game.
IMHO, He needs to pull back the mainstream audience into his favor by knocking a few roles out of the 'ballpark', so to speak, IN ORDER to keep making movies, ANY type of movie, period. Once he plays the game and blows everyone away with his performance in some mainstream movie, the masses will no longer DISS on him constantly. He can then go on and do more of his 'indie' type movies, which I agree, is one of the things we Nicfans love most about his work.
The truth is he has to remain marketable in order to keep on getting roles. There are alot of actors out there that would love to knock him off the pedestal. Nic is a true artist and most of the time he creates his work to his own tune but to keep creating anything he needs to make money. Lose the mainstream audience and he'll lose out in the end.

"Bad film choices" for whom ? I love all the choices Nic has made recenty... i have been a fan for 22 years and was utterly thrilled to bits by The Sorcerer's Apprentice! That project, was near to Nic's heart as he has stated many times in interviews...so the implication that his choices are related to getting "his money problems handled" is in my view a myth. not liking a film does not give a person license to make thse assumptions i believe...just say you dont like the movie!
Nic is still working alongside great actors, in my view! and I totally agree with you cagecrazy, Nic is always so open to working with different actors and what they can learn from them as well as them form him... i really felt such a respect for the way he talked about Jay Baruchel when they worked together in The Sorcerer's Apprentice...and how he generally talks about working with younger actors and what they bring to the table.
Only seen the bridget jones films with Colin firth in and have to say even though he is a great actor he just dont cut it for me he is good in the roles he does play but i personally prefer a litte more charachter and crazyness to my actors and i dont get that vibe from Colin Firth .
Think i am just a Nic cage fan when it comes to actors and have to say the only other actor i do like is the english actor Bill Nighy. I love his work its deep as well as fun .
you are spot on there with that Lula , that interview was fab he was a super role model and not in a bossy way he had lots of fun doing sorcerers apprentice with Jay and it showed in the film . Am sure Jay Will do great and have an amazing career he is definatly an actor to watch .
I personally find it quite upsetting to read all the crap out there about Nic and I do not like to read it here too at a forum meant to honour and showcase the works of a great actor.
Lady T, What you just wrote reminds me of a poem I wrote years ago about Nic.......(Hey....you just asked me this week if I ever wrote poetry about Nic, didn't you, dear)
Well here it is.....my personal take of all the crap that is written about Nicolas. It's dated in the references, of course.....because I wrote it years and years ago....but you'll get the gist of it I'm sure...
Today as I lay in my bed feeling rather sick My thoughts veered off to our man Nic I was thinking how scarce real news has been And thinking for us, his fans, what a sin! I decided that what we needed for him to do Is to grant someone a serious in-depth interview To tell us about his work projects of late And what is coming up next on the directorial slate
You see, all we are getting is tabloid fodder And THAT in itself seems to be getting odder and odder We've heard how in a snit a $65,00 ring went into the ocean And how a wedding was blessed with a Voodoo potion We're told that a replica of Graceland is to be erected With all the latest security gadgets used to keep the new family protected
Let's see, what else? Oh yes... We've heard how our man is a hen pecked husband being used to carry the bags Expected to flash his credit cards to keep his new wife happy in rags And last, but not least, that his art taste was running rather ghoulish Tell me folks, isn't this kind of information rather foolish?
We need substantial and serious news from the horses' own mouth. I, for one, am tired of reading tabloid crap that constantly badmouths A man who I hold in high regard and great esteem Is hoping for real news on Nic projects only a dream? Ok then! I'll stop my ranting and head back off to my sick bed And pray that another Nic poem doesn't pop into my head.

LOL!! I did ask about your poetry, White Fay, and here you have delivered me what I wanted1 Now I want more! That is an awesome poem, Miss Fay, very cool.
I told ya....it was silly stuff that I used to write about Nic. And I haven't felt 'called' in a very long time to write anything new. Believe it or not but I used to wake up with poems in my head (not all of them to do with Nic, obviously). But nowadays.....like I said....my Muse is dead. Or maybe he/she is just in a deep, deep slumber.
Now howabout anyone else? Do any of the newbies write poetry that they'd like to share?
