At the 2011 Sedona International Film Festival showcasing his 2002 directorial debut 'Sonny' last week, actor / director Nicolas Cage, a self professed supernatural horror fan, confirmed he has plans with veteran director Roger Corman to develop a film project recreating the feel and essence of the classic Roger Corman and Vincent Price B movie horrors.
"About a year ago, when I was watching one of my favourite B movies, or 'midnight movies', The Masque of The Red Death with Vincent Price. And I said, ''Why isn't Roger Corman directing again? '' and I called him up and said, ''Roger would you like to direct me in a movie? I want to be in your movie, I want the mist, I want it to be exactly like the way you made those movies, it has to be experimental, we have to go back and get the same cameras, the same blood, same costumes, everything and anything that you did, I want to shoot it your way from the 1960s.'' And he thought about it and he said "yeah, I'll do it." So I'm trying to put that together now and hopefully it will happen. I want to be in one of the great Roger Corman movie classics."
This sounds like an unbeatable combination to us, perhaps the reincarnation of Peter Loew from Nicolas Cage's darkly comedic psychological thriller 'Vampire's Kiss' will happen after all... We can live in hope!
Would you like to see this film happen? Tell us below!
Actually, I REALLY look forward to Nic's creating something entirely original and different from his character in "Vampire's Kiss" -- something more appropriate for the genre -- which I have no doubt he will.
And I would LOVE to see Nic as Captain Nemo -- Disney: Wake Up!!!!
Let us seriously discuss Corman and Nic together then. I must say, I had a look at his resume, wow! Man was/is prolific as producer and director. I know I've seen lots in the past, but the one that jumps out at me is Little Shop Of Horrors, I love that movie. But of course it has been remade. A lot of the Vincent Price ones, so atmospheric and spooky, Masque of Red Death is one I remember well. Looks like he did a lot of sci-fi and road car movies too. I am not so familiar with those. But it sounds like Nic wants to do the Vincent Price Poe kind, am I right? Would you see Nic as the one who stumbles into the wrong place at the wrong time or the evil doer himself? Tortured and conflicted, that is what I would like to see him play.
