Things are getting clearer and clearer in regards to The Expendables 2. That’s not to say there’s a cast yet, not even close, but all the names that are being floated now make more sense. A new report says that Taylor Lautner, Christopher Lambert, Nicolas Cage and Christian Slater are all on an extensive wish list that director Simon West, producer/star Sylvester Stallone and producers have for the action sequel. On that list are also the names previously reported: John Travolta, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Chuck Norris and Jean-Claude Van Damme. However, most actors – Donnie Yen excluded – have yet to be made offers so it’s nothing more than a list. Read more after the jump.
Moviehole’s article is the one that drops these new names. They’re source also said of this wish list, it’s a “big list, man. Most offers yet to go out.”
Basically the filmmakers made a list of all the big action actors they’d love to be in the movie if budget, script and schedule weren’t a factor and haven’t offered most of them a role yet (Yen was, however, but is waiting on the script). This is the definition of a non-story as, of COURSE they made this list. I’m sure Stallone made this list in his head when the first box office numbers rolled in on Expendables opening weekend.
But…that doesn’t mean it isn’t fun to speculate and talk about it. I think Taylor Launter is 100% out. He’s too busy, too expensive and too young to appear in the film. Christopher Lambert is an interesting choice, possibly as a bad guy, but he doesn’t quite have that instant recognition of the other stars. Sorry Highlander, fans. Nicolas Cage seems like a long shot as well because he’s still considered a major star. Then there’s Christian Slater. His FoxTV shot Breaking In just got renewed and he was never an “action” star but he was around at the same time as these other actors. Seems feasible.
Lol! I saw this Lady T! we are ahead of our time trend setters!
My feeling is still the same as when we discussed this a while back, it was a travesty to disclude Nicolas Cage from the original Expendables as he is the most multi dimensional action hero of them all, but having seen the movie, apologies to Mr Stalone, but Nic deserves better ! Having siad that, it is a great concept for a movie, and Nic would rasie the bar considerably higher if he was in it, that is his superpower after all, to transform all material into gold.
Seriously Lady T? wow we just discovered something we have different tastes about! I love JS as an action star, he has this containedness and such a dry humour. and he is hot! :lol! But Nic is a multidimensional actor, and the best actor of this generation in my opinion, and even hotter, so there's no contest really
Lulu? wow that's a first crazydiamond! LOL! excuse me while I break into a rendition of "Shout" "weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeellllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll"
It looks like the official cast list for Expendables 2 has been released and Nic ain't on it. Also:
"A rep for the Lautner tells RumorFix that casting rumor is “not true,” while Cage’s camp tells us, “there is no truth to this, but thank you for checking.”"
You know, although I would love to see Nic in the Expendables 2, because I think it would certainly make some cash at the box-office but, career-wise, I'm not sure if it'd be such a good idea.
Expendables has been billed and known as this movie with all of these washed up, old action stars or actors, trying to make a comeback. I just don't believe Nic is there. I think it might be sending the wrong message. From the first movie, Jason Statham, Sylvester Stallone, Eric Roberts, Mickey Rourke, Steve Austin, have all been taunted as back-in-the day action heroes or actors.
In Expendables 2, I like the fact that there are rumors of adding some young faces to the mix like Taylor Lautner, in which case adds more diversity to the movie. I don't know. The jury is still out on this for me.
wow.. I agree Nic is certainly NOT 'a washed up old action star', he is still bringing us the completely new, fresh and surprising in that awesome eclectNIC way of his...BUT I would not put the other actors in that category either!
I guess many of the others are less versatile than Nic though, they tend to be very much in the one genre....there is no doubt Nic as an actor would elevate this (or any) movie, in every sense, he would turn this single dimensional action genre film into something more kaleidoscopic, and also no doubt that if they are selecting the best action stars to be in it from any time period he deserves to be right on the list, (yes I know he is not an ACTION star only, but as an action actor, he ROCKS no?!!)
Hmmm....as i said before... if the material is like the first....I too am glad he is not going to be in it!!

Excellent points Lula. I agree. Also, I should have thoroughly read the bit about Nic's camp shooting down rumors that he is attached to the project anyway so, GOOD FOR NIC!!!
@ Eva: Taylor is growing on me. He certainly has a nice physique.

' This time out, Stallone is only working in front of the camera. Directing duties will be handled by Con Air‘s Simon West. Which, come to think of it, may have had something do with luring another new Expendable: Nic Cage.“We’ve got Chuck Norris and I think Nic Cage,” says Stallone. “We’re trying to work out different scenarios." '
Wow!! That makes a big difference with Simon West directing! The fact that Stallone won't be is a sigh of relief, lol! This is really going to be quite spectacular if Nic does get in on it, and Jean Claude Van Damme is now confirmed, also! I am quite fond of him, actually, so I suppose there is one pure action star I do like. I personally hope Steven Seagal does not get in on it, although it would be pure camp if he did, I suppose. And Chuck Norris is in it too, lots of great action stars there. It would be amazing if Travolta got in it too, Nic and John together again, wowzers!!!

I am so slow, it has just registered about Simon West directing! that seems like whole different propostion, I agree Lady T!
Confoosing that Stallone is confirming Nic is in it, yet only recently the article I posted a while back quoted Nics' publicists saying: "Cage’s camp tells us, “there is no truth to this, but thank you for checking.”" ???!!!
Seeing Nic with John Travolta again would be so so cool, wonder what happened to that other movie they were rumoured to be pairing up in ?
On a side note: If Nic's camp prefer people to ask about movie rumours they would be very busy indeed! Perhaps we at the castle should do so!! LOL!!!!
