One of the most impressive ensemble casts ever is getting even more impressive, as we now have word that Nicolas Cage is set to join The Expendables 3.
In an interview with Total Film, producer Avi Lerner revealed that Cage has committed to the film, and a few other huge stars are in discussions to join.
“We’ve approached Clint Eastwood to be one of the guys, we’ve got a character in mind for him. We’re talking to Harrison Ford. [And we want] Wesley Snipes when he comes back from prison. I’ll give you one more name, we’ve got Nicolas Cage
And we’re going to bring Mickey Rourke back, if he won’t be too crazy. I like Mickey. And of course, all the existing stars”
That would be an insanely awesome cast, as if the current cast isn’t awesome enough. Even as I type this, I can hear the Cage haters letting out a collective groan. Before you do so though, think about it for a second.
I think the actor would fit very well into the film and plus, it isn’t as if he will be the sole star, or even the biggest star. So even if you aren’t a Cage fan, relax, this casting news can only benefit the film.
Considering The Expendables 2 hasn’t even released yet, Lerner must be very confident that the film will be a hit to be speaking so definitely about another sequel. Even if the second film doesn’t do so well, if they can actually get Eastwood and Ford on board then they should definitely push forward to the third film.
Of course, we will have a much better idea of the future of the franchise this weekend after the official numbers for The Expendables 2 are released.
What do you think? Is Cage a good fit for The Expendables 3?
NICxiting news! Let`s cross fingers, that this will happen with him! He would def inject his special Cageiness (his own, nuveau shamaNIC-fantastNIC style) in it, that would make this third part very, very special! Thanks, Lady T., for posting it!

So that is official? I have to say I'm stunned!.. I happened to watch The Expendables about a month ago and, frankly speaking,I didn't like it.At all.Sorry,no offence to anyone... But I'm sure if Nic stars in the third part, that will bring the movie to another level.
The first one was directed by Sylvester Stallone, and the new one is directed by Simon West, that should make quite a difference, I would think. And I think Nic in the mix makes for a better movie any time myself.
Thanks for sharing your opinion Lady T. I have to wait since I simply lost all my trust for the first movie. There is no words of a Chinese date for The Expendables 2 yet. Ah no kidding he just has such a.. I'd like to call it ''superpower''. I admit that I haven't seen any movie Nic h as acted in that he didn't do awesome in, but will be fussy as always if Nic has a role in the 3rd Expendables movie project.
For those interested we had quite a discussion about Nic's possible appearance in the second film here apologies if I repeat some of my earlier thoughts on the films.
To exclude Nicolas Cage from a list of action greats is a travesty, as an action LEGEND (Con Air, The Rock, Face/Off and so many more) he more than deserves a role in any film honouring action! not that he is AN action star, rather an actor with unmatchable versatility, action being one of the many strings to his bow, each delivered with equal talent (unlike any other!) so it is awesome news he has been asked!
Also the prospect of Harrison Ford and Clint Eastwood, Wesley Snipes as well as Nic certainly raises the excitement levels an elevates, in my opnion, the calibre of actor. But ..for me the first film (yet to see second) fell somewhat short of either an epic action film or a homage to action genre and the greats who brought that genre to life, so I hope that a third does not result in some kind of almost action farce. This seems unliely though with Nic on board, even in a cameo it would raise the bar and the coolness factor considerably and hopefully with a sprinkle of that mageic Cage dust this could be a very shiny film indeed!
So........................ bring it on I say, I can feel the adrenalin pumping aready!
Agree with everything you said, Lula! Actually, I came home from work earlier to find my dh watching the first one on tv so I sat and watched it with him. It seemed a bit more amusing than the first time I watched it, but still pretty bad, lol! We will probably go and see the new one because we both like Jean Claude and it seems like a good light movie to see, also I want to see how Simon West puts it all together.
I am thinking that there are a few classic action stars I would like to see with Nic, Jackie Chan for one, that would have to be a hoot. Also I would like to see Nic and Ving Rhames work together again, they were wonderful together in Bringing Out The Dead. I only wish he could have been in a movie with Bruce Lee, my favourite of all time action movie heroes.
Oh yes, Jackie Chan absolutely needs to be invite to join the cast! Maybe there is a way Bruce Lee coud join the cast, having seen Freddie Mercury resurrected in a clever way on big screesns incorprorated into a perfomance at the Olympics closing ceremony, maybe they could do something like that, it would be very cool.
Has Mickey Rourke been invited? there have been several rumours over the years of NIc and he working together again at some point, that is something i would love to see too!
Apparently Jason Statham 'approves' of Nic, Harrison Ford and Clint Eastwood being in the third film. LOL!
Sean Connery too? wow.... I have craved to see a reteaming of Nic and Sean for a long time... and The Rock is one of the best ever action movies, It is only right!
Now thats what i call sme exciting news. I liked the first movie, have to see the sceond one. I would be a dream coming true if Nic would play in a movie with Harrison ford and clint eastwood

Lol, those were my thoughts too Lady T, Statham is a great actor and I have enjoyed the films I have seen with him in (particularly Revolver, 13 and the Crank films) But it is a different league from the legends who have been in the biz for decades!!
Let's keep our fingers crossed for it to happen Flo!
