Film, music fest kicks off with Luchino Visconti tribute
Naples, July 10 - The eleventh Ischia Global Film and Music Fest is set to begin on Saturday, July 13. Many Hollywood stars are slated for attendance at the festival on the island in the Gulf of Naples. The two most well-known are Nicholas Cage and Samuel L. Jackson, as well as director Paul Haggis - who won two Oscars for the screenplay and directing of 'Crash' in 2007 - and Terry Gilliam, Joel Schumacher and Baz Luhrmann. This year's edition focuses on France as country guest of honour, opening with Roman Polanski's Venus in Fur, which was presented at the last Cannes Film Festival. The events will kick off on Saturday with an evening in memory of filmmaker Luchino Visconti, best known for The Leopard (1963) and Death in Venice (1971), with Italian director Mimmo Calopresti taking part. There will also be advanced screenings of films such as Turbo, an animated film starring a snail that wants to win the Indy 500, presented by Samuel L. Jackson, who performs the voice for one of the main characters. The festival will include two photography exhibitions. One is devoted to famed Italian press agent Enrico Lucherini, which will be introduced by Academy Award-winning filmmaker and screenwriter Giuseppe Tornatore. The other is devoted to Domenico Modugno, the singer and songwriter of 'Volare' fame.
Here is Nic at a news conference at the Ischia Global Awards, it is a bit hard to hear him, but well worth watching. Interesting to hear him talk about the music for The Frozen Ground too. The man looks sooo good too!
