*joins the debating circle* ooh ladies, loving this conversation!
It's fascinating how we each experience different characters! For me Joe in Bangkok Dangerous was multilayered and the cold blooded hard killer coexisted with someone melting back into the more truthful self he was. It felt to me he was having to *hold on* to the cold blooded killer like an overcoat he'd worn for so many years, but now was increasingly aware it didn't fit him any more in fact it hurt him. How Nic conveyed all this I do not know. But he did.
I agree with you about Castor Troy Lady T! Face/Off was brilliant in this way..i originally thought it was because Nic played both the personification of 'evil' [castor Troy) and 'Good' (Sean Archer) that the boundaries felt blurred to me. But no..it's more than that. Both characters were also shades of grey. There were definitely tortured elements to them both that pulled them over from their respective extremes at times. It's such an excellent film and brilliantly clever too!
As for roles not yet done...Nic pretty much satisfied something in me with Balthazar Blake...truly!
But I'd love to see him in a period film... Season of the Witch may be the one for that...isn't this the first role he's been in, hailing back to a previous century? I'd love to see him go even further back in time..ancient egyptians maybe! And also further into the future...loving the science fiction genre as I do. I'd very much enjoy more non human characters or part human characters like Seth and Ghost Rider!

As a fan...is there a character of Nics that you would like or would have liked to see him reprise.
I thought of this question while posting in 'The Rock' thread. Maybe he is too old now for it, but wouldn't it have been great to see Stanley in another action role saving the world? Or would it?
I know he has done NT2 and there is the GR upcoming sequel, but what about some of his other iconic roles...Cameron or... ever wonder what happened to Seth...how about Michael...or maybe you'd like to know what happened Next to Chris, or Memphis?

Well, I always thought there could have been a sequel to Face Off.....because while they did all the face tranplanting stuff, they would have surely saved Castor Troy's DNA. Perhaps his brother could have hi-jacked the DNA and cloned him and we could have had a sequel?
Seth...it would have been interesting to see how he adjusted to being human and also having lost his love.......
But seriously............I soooooooooooo want to see Nic leave behind all the characters that have in common some sort of 'angst'. To really exercise his acting chops, I'd love to see him play a carefree, fun loving, comedic type again.

Face-Off sequel, wow, that would be very cool! Can't you just see him with his back to the camera talking, then the camera pans around and there he is in all his grinning glory. Whoop! The audience would go nuts! But he looks so different now.
It would be fun to see more humour, he is really very hilarious. I did read in some old interview that he thought people responded more to him in comedic type roles. Seth I would love to see again, the angel reborn.
Too bad about Big Daddy I loved him, maybe a prequel?
Wow...loving your take on the Face/off sequel White Fay! It is science fiction...and in that arena anything could be possible!
I love a comedic edge to a Nic character but not necessarily straight comedy, I like all the different tones in one character..a tragi-comedy would be good! Even romantic comedy has a broad possibility..take Moonstruck for example, there were so many shades in Ronnie! Having said that...it is so NICe to just have something light and easy wash over you sometimes..luckily Nic has provided us with a full palette and even if you can't please everyone you can't say there is not variety in his work!
I'd love to see where the movie couples are now..Lula and Sailor, Ronnie and Loretta, Charlie and Yvonne, Jack and Betsy...oh so many! Or those characters who traversed the grey areas...where did they end up? Like H.I... And how about Joe in Bangkok Dangerous...did he follow his inner pull to leave the hit man life behind or give in to the life he has always known?
Right now I'm longing to see what happens to Balthazar, and Veronica...and Dave!
lol, Lady T my theory is that Big Daddy will return in spirit....and appear only to Hit Girl ?

i haven't seen sa. bad, bad girl! i like him dark and tortured, but i also stick around because he has the range to keep things interesting, so a change would be nice. i also love scifi/fantasy and would be crazy excited to see him do something from the works of jordan, martin, or goodkind. i would also really like to see him direct again. who am i kidding? i want to see it all......... but all i need is the trailers. i don't really keep up with the rest. of course, i would never turn down the opportunity to see him in a toga. lol! he could really do a killer job as a musician. love to here him sing. sigh.

Hey, Ronnie, Nic in a karaoke movie, wouldn't that be great! We could write it and send it to him! He could be a character with personality problems who only gets happiness from entering karaoke contests. During the course of the movie he would face his inner demons, meet a wonderful woman and win the championship. Can't be that hard to write, every other Hollywood movie has a similar plot. He would do his own singing of course. And have strange mannerisms, and a bad temper. Must have a bad temper because I miss seeing Nic go off in his movies. Probably been done, though.
I don't think I've ever heard of a movie based on a Karoke singer who has gone off the deep end, yet perserved in the end..........Hmmm.....could be mighty......interesting!

I can't think of a karaoke singer movie either Lady T! Get writing girl! I got 2 'scripts' of sorts, one I could definitely see Nic in and the other I could see him directing! The first does involve singing but not karaoke!
Hi All, I love all your answers here about Nic's roles and sequels. I too would love to see another Next movie as it should had been another one because of that ending in Next. I can understand why most didn't understand the ending to that film. I thought that all the things that had happened after the scene with Nick in bed with his love played by Jessica Biel, was only his insight into what could have happened if he followed that road. Although, he was suppose to see only a few minutes into his own future in the film. He didn't like how it ended with his new love dying because of him. Then he figure he can really change what will happened to the world and to her if he had another way of changing his future. So he decided to help Julian Moore to stop the terrorist. I do love Nick doing more comedy movies as I like every thing he did with his roles in them. I do like him in about every thing he's done because he has so many different characters in his movies. He's a joy to watch! Nancy
Next is similar to The Family Man in that taking one path or the other leads the character in totally different directions, ultimately changing lives completely.

Lovely to see you again Nancy! A pleasure to read your thoughts! It sounds like you were far more on the case than I was when I first saw Next...I was completely thrown by the ending!
I agree with you White Fay, there is that parallel between Next and Family Man! Which brings me to my next suggestion for a Nic movie, a science fiction movie where he exists simultaneously in parallel universes... OR where he is a highly famous actor who is cloned in order to have a very busy working and public life and still be able to maintain a completely private life, using advanced technology known only to the elite few. Or perhaps he is cloned in every respect except his appearance, so there are two of him but one looks entirely different, he can have his life as the actor and a private life which really is private in that he is physically camouflaged.
hmmmm.......... nic doing karaoke. love it! i've had several dreams about him singing in a karaoke bar but never for me. *sigh*. karaoke in a toga? just a thought

As a fan, what do you like to discuss MOST about Nicolas Cage?
Is it....... his movies? His characters? His acting ability? His future or past works? His achievements? His charitable works? His work on world issues? His undeniably adorable good looks? His family? His relationships? His private life?
Or something else!
For me, I enjoy discussing all of the above except the last three, and the thing I've come to realise I get excited about the most is his characters!
So true very McClunger, well..almost every mood.... and a wonderful reason to celebrate Nic's eclecticism! It can be very cathartic watching a movie of a certain flavour at different times. And Nic definitely brings a whole variety of flavours and a whole range of characters!
