I don't realy know, I do know his friends call him Nic (he was talking about it in an interview)

Lula,  you are correct!!  Nic was born:  Nicholas Kim Coppola

He changed it to Nicolas Cage, though legally, he is still Nicholas Kim Coppola.  I believe most of his friends and family vary calling him Nic to Nicky.  I like both actually.

Hi Eva! A lot of websites list it as "Nicolas" even Wikepedia has it wrong.  Though some places on the web, after doing the appropriate research, have listed it correctly as Nicholas. bowsmiley

He was listed as NiColas Coppola in Fast Times at Ridgemont High!

 

The question is,WHY did he decide to get rid of the h BEFORE changing his lastname to Cage?

It's actually a really interesting story.  I have a friend who works for US Magazine.  Among others, we had this very conversation a few years ago. 

When I saw they had posted, in the bio "Nicholas Kim Coppola", I called her and said: I think you guys are spelling his name wrong. 

A week later she called me and said that they had fact checked his name with Nic's publicist and she confirmed that his birth name is Nicholas Kim Coppola.

That's the only proof I have. smilesmilesmilesmilesmilesmilesmilesmilesmile

That`s really an interesting story, Gina. Indeed! I like to call him Nic. In the beginning, I also spelled his name Nick. And, when he tells a story from his youth or childhood in a talkshow, he likes to refer there of himself as Nicky. But, honestly, I don`t know. We can only guess. yellowflowergrin

I saw a particular bio of Nic on the web it states the reason why he changed his last name into "CAGE". As far as I could remember, the reason why he changed his last name was because of his nephew. I don't know that case until now. I'm still searching for the truth.

The reason, why he changed it, was, because he want to make a name and career on his own. So, to avoid nepotism. At the castings, he always been asked about his uncle Francis Ford Coppola. That is why, he changed it from Coppola to Cage, Reggie.
