well thank you Ms Gina..lol, let our Absolute Truth trump their absolute truth!
funny, i don't feel like writing defensive articles any more, Nic myths are just so freaking OLD and becoming so tedious and naff now...they just don't hold any weight. Nic as an actor continues to carve that maverick sculpture that all people cannot help but gaze upon. some things are true whether you believe in them or not!
Here's why I think 'Deconstructing Nic Cage Myths' will always be relevant, whether it's you, me, or other fans alike: As long as Nic continues to work, he will continue to gain new fans. New fans will be subjected to what they consider to be new information even though, we as fans find the same ole stuff to be just that - 'OLD'....
I like to use Bangkok Dangerous as an example when people say he is a wooden and bad actor. People say he doesn't emote much and he rarely talks, or when he does it's whispering. Well, *avoiding spoilers* considering the character he is playing in the movie, he's hardly going to be bouncy and happy and smiley and all of that. I thought the role was good because of the solidarity of his character and then he suddenly has a protege and a love interest- which actually does make him happy. He liked working in Bangkok because of the experience of working over there. Then you get a film like Bad Lieutenant which really unleashes Nicolas Cage and then everyone loves him for that. Stupid Critics. The critics seem to hate a lot of his recent output, but we shouldn't let them bother us that much.
I wrote an essay for my local paper that people sort of need to lay off of him a bit. They always criticize everything he does and complain that he doesn't do what made him great. I think that he is an actor who likes to do something differen everytime, I'm sure he's said that in an interview at one point. He does a film like Season of the Witch, a fantasy and then he goes and does, Seeking Justice, an action thriller. You'll never know what he'll do next! He always brings something new to the table. I think his portrayal of Kyle in Trespass was something quite different as his voice was a little different sounding and the character was a determined one, even if I don't like the movie that much, the performances in the film were what were good, as was the story.
He never plays the same character twice, how do I know this? Because how can he? It doesn't make sense, unless it's a sequel to National Treasure or Ghost Rider where he would play the same character, that argument doesn't make sense. Each film brings something new to the table. I also get very annoyed when people bash films just because critics did, honestly now, I showed someone the Drive Angry score on Rotten Tomatoes which is a measly 46% and he sort of dismissed the movie, I showed it to him and he loved it, he thought it was a crazy ride. This proves my point. Rotten Tomatoes is a topic all in itself, but one not to be told here.
NO. He should continue to make movies........ FOREVER!
Rotten Tomatoes?
