Could this be the new Christmas song of our times? I guess it could be tempting to see this as pointless and pretentious.. but for me it's a concept I can really get behind !

Silence has a very deep potency indeed, especially in the context of the perpetual noise of our world. A greater truth arises for me however...that infinite transcendent silence, like an ocean of peace, is ever here beneath and within the transience of noise as it rises and falls.
But we don't notice it until we stop.

I really expected this to be a Rage Against the Machine song with Cage quotes remixed into it!

Still, I like the other Cage and having attended a number of Quaker meetings with Anna recently can certainly certify that silence is a necessary and beautiful part of life. Actually, now I'm home without Anna in Ipswich, rather than in London, I must say that I miss her and the meetings a whole bunch!

After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music.
Aldous Huxley

This was the cryptoquote in the paper tonight. Apt, isn't it?

I am much too pragmatic to understand this musical concept at all.
But I am a fan of silence.

Hard to be away from your family, Sprocket. Will you be together for Christmas? Quaker meetings can be quite long I believe. Don't know if I could sit that long!

She's coming just after Christmas - can't wait! :D

They tend to last about an hour, but the time seems to pass quite quickly. I like having the chance to look at things - the grain of the wood flooring, the back of a chair, the light through a window - that I wouldn't look so closely at otherwise. I'm not sure if my experience has been spiritual exactly, but it certainly is peaceful, which seems to me a kind of spirituality of itself.

...and perhaps the chance to go within rather than externally Sprocket? This is what silence gives to me.. No i rephrase... this is how silence returns me to my true self...which in truth, for me, is infinite and connected with all...like an endless ocean or freefalling through the cosmos.... Many people are afraid of silence, and stopping, for this reason...whole lives doing (and distracting and avoiding from Here and Now) rather than being!starry
