A very interesting piece here on the representation of witches and the occult in Season Of The Witch!
I hesitated to really dive into this discussion before, though we have touched upon it in other posts, why movies never portray a 'good witch'! except for my favourite movie of all time, Wizard Of Oz! (and my particular bugbear that witches are portrayed primarily as evil hags and wizards as wise benevolent gentlemen with beards!) Anyway....just putting it out there!
Not a bad opinion piece, but a lttle heavy-handed I thought, considering we really don't know yet what the story will involve. I am hopeful that it will not be as straight forward as it may seem.
I agree Lady Trueheart, she did say though somewhere in there some positive elements. It is also worth remembering that a film is not necessarily a reflection of the opinion of the people who create or star in it! I think you are right that there will be lots of ambiguity and tension... and it occurred to me this morning that perhaps it should be celebrated these kind of issues get raised at all in film because it gives people like the interviewee in this article a chance to voice their opinion! Personally i feel Behman is going to be the champion for the witch, and I am very excited for this movie!
