NCBR Interview: Cagealot Castle
To celebrate the birthday of Nicolas, Nicolas Cage BR features interviews with other fans of the actor, who maintain Web sites and forums in other countries where they are information sharing, uniting people and making new friends.
The interviewees are soooo kind and thoughtful and they are Lula Argante and Tess. The first interview was made with Lula, founder of the Forum Cagealot Castle which was born August 2, 2010, after finding that the 140 characters of Twitter were insufficient to talk about Nicolas. Check!

How long you're a fan of Nicolas? How did you know his work?
I was fortunate enough to discover his movies when I was young. Raising Arizona was the first Nic movie I saw and I have been a Nicolas Cage superfan for 22 glorious years since!
When and how did the idea of creating Cagealot Castle? Tell us a little about the history of the forum.
Cagealot castle began on Twitter, as a space for Nic Cage 'superfans' across the world. At the time of it's creation, I really felt driven to bring a positive voice as a fan of Nic for his work. At the same time I was very excited about the upcoming film, The Sorcerer's Apprentice and found myself wanting to share that magic with everyone! Like most creative things for me, I have absolutely no idea where the idea for the concept came from ... it just flowed through me full force, completely bypassing all thought, so I really had no choice about it!

The universe of Twitter is a great place to meet other fans of Nic (after all, it is where I found NicCageBR), but there comes a time when it is good to talk in more than 140 characters and that is where the forum comes in. We enjoy movie discussion, interviews, reviews, photos and videos, and we fans have fun in the beautiful surroundings of the castle! Furthermore, after the fabulous Cagefactor closed, a renowned site and our online home for many years, the future seemed uncertain of the current forum. A group of us decided it was a natural progression to extend the group on Twitter and create a new forum. It is intended as a magical realm for all fans of Nicolas Cage, to honor and celebrate the work of the most magnificant actor of our times. For me personally, it feels like an homage, a way of saying thanks to Nicolas for so many years of fun, entertainment, escapism and great art through the ups and downs of my own life.
A funny story involving Nicholas and / or Cagealot Castle to share?
Yes! Years ago, long before it actually materialized, I was thinking about how "Cagealot Castle" would be an excellent name for a Nicolas Cage page on Twitter, with the emphasis on "ALOT" in terms of the level of our fanhood and the amount of information found there.
I also live in England, the home of the Arthurian legends and Camelot Castle in Tintagel, Cornwall. I was excited about the idea of what a magical realm it could be and how creative you could get with a concept like that. So you can imagine my surprise and delight when in 2009 Nic was recommended for the Knighthood of Creativity by Camelot Castle's Arts Programme for his contribution to the arts!
Also. in interviews for The Sorcerer's Apprentice, Nic mentioned his interest in Arthurian legends and of course now he is playing a knight in his next movie Season of the Witch. Thus, it seems very appropriate that he should become an honorary knight of our own castle, Sir Nicolas Cage of Cagealot!

What is the best aspect of being a fan of Nicolas Cage?
The best aspect of being a fan of Nicolas Cage, has to be getting to have been right about his work all along, when people who previously didn't, finally 'get it'! For example, I have always loved his 1988 movie, Vampire's Kiss and I am very happy to see that there is an emerging appreciation now for this movie, years after it was born! (Fully deserved in my opinion, not least for the staggeringly brilliant performance by a very young Nicolas Cage).

Having such an extensive and impressive collection (and growing) of movies to choose from is also a privilige, as is meeting other Nicolas Cage fans around the world, I have made some wonderful friends for life.
What aspect of the personality of Nicolas draws your attention the most?
Well, I can only talk about the personalities of his characters, but the very special thing I love about the characters Nic brings to life is the complexity he is capable of conveying, nobody does it better and even though people are tempted to only see one aspect of his portrayals, (crazy Cage, or action hero Cage or dark Cage), there is a kaleidoscope of expression that is being transmitted through the screen.

As an actor, Nic can play the most tender intimate moments, that tear your heart apart, and then can turn around and treat you to the most outrageous larger than life moments that leave your head spinning ... and then there are all the shades between. His eclectic choices suit my eclectic tastes! I feel Nicolas Cage is truly creative, a courageous actor, who is unafraid to really push boundaries and take a risk. There is also for me that quintessential element to his performances, with magnetic moments of genius that are the hallmarks of a Nic Cage movie.
