I love this song, Tennessee Waltz especially the version performed by Chiemi Eri, which established her reputation, a powerful tune as sad as the love story of Chiemi and Takakura. Takakura was hooked by Chiemi for this song, and by coincidence, they met and fallen in love and got married three years later in 1959, Chiemi was 22 and Takakura was 28. Marriage is grave of love as the proverb goes, although both of them knew they would be bitterly remorseful by their choice, they divorced in the year of 1970. Chiemi was found dead in her flat just one day before Valentine's Day of 1982, Takakura hadn't never got married again since then. It was thought that Takakura picked Tennessee Waltz as the theme song of his prestigious Poppoya out of his his deep love for his departed ex-wife. Not much youths are familiar with Ken Takakura these days. I am not quite sure if you guys know about him... I am not very much into Japanese, but some Japanese folk songs are easily the best ballads.. Such a beautiful voice...
