Even tho I should have stayed home and in bed last night, I headed out to see DRIVE ANGRY on it's opening night. Call me a loyal fan......I couldn't resist.
The movie was exactly what I expected it to be.....FUN! It's a stylisized version of a modern day Western, with lots of gun fights, gratutious sex, violence and foul language wrapped up in a demonic led storyline of a man trying to do one good thing in order to redeem his life. What he does won't change his own personal fate but it will afford someone else to live the life they were born to live.
The movie worked for me. I went into the theater expecting to be in for a wild ride, and I wasn't disappointed. It's a movie that entertains and doesn't preach anything in particular.....just that evil does exist and that it needs to be fought with a vengeance.
Personally, I got a kick out of finding out that Milton was from Illinois, the state that I live in. For some reason, that made me laugh.
Anyway, Nicolas, on screen, was once again, lusiciously handsome and laconic......YEAH, BABY!

I saw the first showing on Friday and enjoyed Drive Angry quite a bit. I am a fan of Grindhouse films that are self aware in being raw, gory, sex filled, tounge in cheek genre. I also liked to see Nic back in his BMF mode harkening back to Con Air and Face Off. I loved that Nic and William Fichtner were completly serious throughout which made it that much more endearing. I think the 3D was totally unessesary however.....it looked out of focus and not needed. The only part where the 3D looked cool was when Piper shot Accountant with the 5 barreled Devil Killing gun. I cant wait for it to come out on dvd and watch it in standard 2D. Good to see Nic back on screen.
It was lots of fun, wasn't it, White Fay! Did enjoy the bond between Piper and Milton also, liked the sweetness of it. It was kinda like a western too, a real out there one!
Be careful of posting spoilers, clcdmb and all, some have not seen the movie yet, don't want to ruin it for them!
I liked the 3D for the awesome effects, especially at the beginning, but I agree, it was blurry sometimes, so I also want to see it in regular screen soon too. Wearing the 3D glasses over my own glasses felt kind of annoying, but it really was worth it to me to see what they did.
So cool to read your thoughts everyone!! sounds like you all loved it!!
I will add my own when i eventually have the pleasure! in the meantime..I am vicariously soaking up your excitement...and adding it to the fuel of delicious suspense!!
It was lots of fun! And I loved the interactions between Piper and Milton. It was a quick and extraordinarily tight relationship that they formed with one another. Milton knew what he was doing when he 'chose' her, that's for sure.

It was fun and full of blood, guts, testosterone and a lot of heart. I would of liked to see Milton and The Accountant face off and duel a little more like T2, but that is okay. I loved David Morse and would of loved to see him have a larger role in it. All in all what I expected........fun and loud. The loudest Nic movie I have ever seen and I have seen them ALL.
I just seen Drive Angry & i really enjoy it ...OMG Nicolas Cage wearing all blackthat done it for me & it was nice surprise seeing David Morse in the fiilm, he should had a bigger part ....BTW, will there be a sequel???

It's good to see that everybody seems to enjoy the movie! I've heard mostly postive reviews about it. I haven't got to see it yet but I plan on going if it's playing at my theater this upcoming weekend. My mom and my brother want to go watch it, too, so hopefully I'll have a better chance of going. I'll try to give me thoughts on it if I get to.

i have seen it twice both in 3d and have not seen any thats been blurry or anything so will have to disagree with that aspect and filming in the 3d has given the film a more better feeling with the way they used the 3d shots to enhance the film i have glasses on so the 3d glasses are a bit heavy but they are bearable to see a 3d film i have seen a few films in 3d now and have to say that it is definatly the best one i have seen .
hope people get to watch the film this weekend or this week and hope you all enjoy it , i so may have to go again am addicted to nic cant get enough of him .
It IS an instant classic, isn't it, McClunger! I don't know why it's not bringing people in by the droves because it really is a fresh aproach to a movie, something we haven't seen in a very long time.

I like all the shotguns Nic used in Drive Angry and hope that it does well on DVD since it fared poorly at the Cinemas. I feel bad for Nicolas trying so hard but not being rewarded for his efforts. Keep truckin' Nic and you will soon burn up the road again.
i know definatly word of mouth been raving about it at my ann summers and body shop parties some people spoken to had not heard of it so was telling everyone how great it was so hope more people went to see it from that plus i wrote a review for the cinema near me and they printed it so i really hope people watch it they would not be disappointed by it at all its definatly loud and fresh.
hey cagecrazy, just noticed this, you wrote a review of Drive Angry? if you feel given to share, i for one would love to read it!!!
I HAVE SEEN IT!!!!!
not many words yet, I loved the flavour of the movie, it did have that grindhouse and ..i cant think of another word but 'coolness' feel...Nic was incredibly cool and not only that, brought a weight to a role which could have been less than multidimensional.... and I have to go back to a comment Sprocket made a while back where he predicted some similarities between Sailor in Wild At Heart and Milton...there were definite echoes of that right there in that opening scene (which was ULTRA cool) but perhaps for me Milton was more about emanation than expression, he was restrained but he oozed multiple vibes....yes he was driven by vengenace, but there was a lot more going on under the surface....def the most violent character we have seen of Nic (do you agree?) perhaps more interms of body count and the graphic scenes. i really thought i may have issues with the violence and blood, but after you have seen Kill Bill, this was tame lol, I don't mean to make light of it, and there were some very bloody scenes that i had to hide from but it was less so than i had prepared myself for.
I loved Piper, and her relationahip with Milton, one moment stood out for me, but won't do a spoiler...just when she was beginning to suspect the supernatural side with Milton. Perhaps they didnt need to make so much fuss about her being kick ass, we'd all be like that in the same situation, right ladies? and one tiny thing i was talking to lady Trueheaert about last night...why couldn't the Charger have been hers?!!!
Iwas reminded of the relentlessness of both Terminator movies (with both Milton and the Accountant actually...driven, unstoppable...The Accountant ploughing through things) there was a Dusk Til Dawn flashback I had i think triggered by the camper van part, lol.. anyway i said i didnt have many words..turns out i did!
The kick ass part of Piper stood out for me in the scene with her boyfriend, so many movies have the girl getting beaten to a pulp till rescued. Well, she gave back hard and I liked that. Realistically, he was a big guy and a woman, unless trained in fighting, prob would not stand a chance. Not that this movie is realistic. Piper did not appear to have suffered any physical effects from that encounter at all that I could see, lol.
