'The Emperor' is my second favourite piano concerto, this movement anyway. It is so intimate yet ever expansive in a tender and majestic way.
The first time i heard it I cried the whole way through, and although i have listened to it many many times since, each time i am brought to tears..the kind of tears that come from that deep place that, for me, only music can enter, tears that you cannot tell if they are ecstatic happiness or deep pain, and it doesn't matter because it is just so exquisitely beautiful.
This version is set to some wonderful images, i hope you enjoy!
It is exquisite, isn't it? Thank you for this, Lula, I really needed to hear that right now, although I didn't know it till I did. I always have difficulty finding words for music or art that is so moving. And my knowledge of the classic composers is sketchy at best. But I have, I think, all of Beethoven's works on cassette, sadly all packed away in storage, and I really need to update my CD collection. Therefore, isn't Youtube wonderful!
My grandmother used to play The Moonlight Sonata for me when I was a child. It remains my favourite piece of music, and one of my most cherished childhood memories. Whenever I hear it I immediately close my eyes and see her very clearly at the piano, she wasn't a very accomplished player, so had to really concentrate and made mistakes, but I thought it was the most beautiful music I ever heard.
*nods whilst smiling*....yes Youtube is a wondrous place!
This beautiful piece is so healing isn't it my friend....it reaches in to the soul and heart in ways you can't name. I am glad
I hope one day I have the honour of playing the Moonlight Sonata (and any Beethoven Sonata you fancy) for you Lady True..but in the meantime i think Dante Gabriel Rossetti was playing it in his turrett whilst admiring his own artwork earlier....
Yes, indeed he was, Lula, and a most attractive turret in the castle it is! Wonder if there are other yet undiscovered people here within the castle walls?
It is a magical place, after all!
I look forward to hearing you play Beethoven for me Lula, it is one of my favourite daydreams, or at least the dream of visiting you in England is, the piano part you have just added to enhance it!
This version on You tube seems so beautiful to me, although of course, there are many different lovely versions of The Moonlight Sonata. The tempo seems perfect to me. And I became hypnotized by the image of her hands and the reflection of them in the piano playing together.
A lovely version lady True, ivery fluid and expressive. In a way the best thing about this post though was your mwntion of the reflection, you have a very poetic artistic heart! and it made me think of moonlight reflecting in water.
