Y'all may have already seen this review, which matches sentimentalism with cynicism in a curious way, I think, perhaps due to me and Jay not loving the film, but enjoying the experience of being snug in a bed, watching it! Still, I would give it a thumbs up and I imagine that when I have a family of my own it's a film I'll watch with increased sentiment!
Great review Sprocket, I enjoyed reading your thoughts, as usual, and had fun looking at the link to the TV Tropes, amusing.
The ending of Family Man is not how I wanted it to end, and I never really understood, other than a Hollywood mechanism, why Jack was so bad in the first place, that he had to be shown a lesson. The ending seems to negate the rest of the story for me. But nevertheless, I am in complete agreement with Lula that it is a magical movie, and much of that for me is because of Nic's performance and the whole family dialogue, warm and yet not cloying. And it does not get much more romantic than the birthday video scene!
