After watch BL: POCNO again last night, I am convinced that Nicolas was robbed by the academy for not getting an Oscar Nom or Golden Globe Nom for his exceptional work in the film.  I put BL in the top 5 of Nic's greatest performances on screen.  Do any of you believe that BL: POCNO will be Nic's last truly great performance on screen?  It blew me away and I also would like to ask if any on here believe Nic will ever get an Oscar Nomination ever again.  There has been little Nic news to speak of so I decided to bring up a topic like this.  smile

Yes, at least a nomination!! Also Matchstick Men!! Truly robbed. Don't know what they were thinking. But the work will ever stand, and the genius is there for all to see and know.

There is no limit to what Nic is capable of, and that won't stop until his last breath. Now, whether the awards people give awards or not has nothing to do with the quality of the work and can't be predicted. But that is never as important as the actual creation.

No,I believe he will capture the nominations.Awards has nothing to do with the quality of Nic's work,I completely agree with you on this point,Lady Grace!
the Bad Lieutenant Port of Call New Orleans ought to be one of the greatest film, but
our screen hero will never bend toward the end of his legend.
It's really hard to tell whether his upcoming films will gain academics' favour or not.In order to be irreplaceable one must always be DIFFERENT.The critics scream that all of Nic's characters are all the same, and he has continued to go down.but NO piper can please all ears......Audience like mystery and intrigue, but do they really make good sense of his latest movies, such as the Bangkok Dangerous,Knowing, the Sorcerer's Apprentice, Season of the Witch & Drive Angry and so on,or do they think the latest don't match his previous ones???National Treasure series and Ghost Rider applaud & draw a large audience, while the academic thoroughly disdaining popcorn flicks.I think above-mentioned are the important factors that he cannot obtain their affirmation, and i feel terrible about such gripes will grow louder, how shall i put it?I'm not a huge Nicfan though,at least,he is one of the greatest actors in the history of film industry.Deep inside my heart, there's always a place for Sir Nicolas Cage.

Nic has given several great performances since Bad Lieutenant in my opinion clc!??!!

He did receive much critical acclaim and an award and nomination for BLPOCNO

Won: 2009 Toronto Film Critics Association Award for Best Actor

Nominated:2010 Chlotrudis Award For Best Actor

When interestingly the film did badly at the box office. But, as we discussed in our poll here, most of us don't  judge a movie by critics opinion, awards or box office!

Perhaps the question shoud be when are they going to create an award good enough for Nicolas Cage? As much as I am a proud fan that Nic received an oscar and many awards, i really don't care if his filmes recieve awards or not, especailly those voted for by such an elite and elitist group of people. Seriously, when are the academia going to get their heads around different expressions of art? I would like to see more awards for fantasy and science fiction movies.

He may or may not get a nomination again, who knows, but I feel he will continue to give high caliber performances at all times. As he always does.

Great feedback folk and I hope to keep the conversation going.  Tues ManIc,  I am surprised to see you are not a huge Nicfan since you post on here all the time.  Have you had a change of heart?  I also feel that some of the films mentioned put a bad light on Nic and that he should perform to his capabilities, but does so only when he isnt given Cart Blanche and is challenged by a script and director.  My friend Tina hates that Nic has an Oscar and the likes of Depp and RDJ dont have one yet.  I  dont think Nic will ever get nominated again however because he is in "the dog house" of hollywood right now and his boxoffice draw is not doing well right now.  Hope that changes though.

You have an issue with that02words,clcmdb?Honestly,Im certainly aware of I am not a Huge Nicfan because I really dont know much about Nic.I am proud that i m a Nicfan,as a consequence,i enjoy talking about him with my friends and it seems that i couldnt get enough of the stuff he pulled. Even though some of his films dont get favorable responses from the critics,i believe he will get nominations again
In spite of the fact that Johnny Depp & Robert Downey Jr. clicked with audiences,I guess Matt Damon is more likely to get an Oscar.

I agree with you on the Matt Damon getting an Oscar before Depp and RDJ.  Damon is the most consistent actor in Hollywood today and chooses his roles well I believe.  It sickens me that a lot of critics and people feel that RDJ is the "most talented" actor of his generation because he cant hold a candle to Nic's work, Hanks' work, Denzel's work or Daniel Day Lewis' work.  I think Nicolas is the most consistend through his 30 yr career with great films in each decade he has worked in.  Just my thoughts tho.

You are a very thoughtful person and everyone who post in this forum group all have varied viewpoints that create thought provoking debate.  Thanks for the compliment about my perception in film and the arts alike.  As far writing goes, I would have to say that it was my greatest skill at one time.  I was going to college to become a English teacher like most of my professors suggested I do but things in life get complicated and it never came to be.  My sister is actually promoting her book, Angels of Redemption, at Comic Con this year, but I am unable to attend.  I would like to go and meet Nicolas and other actors/directors someday though. smile
