Remember back in 2006, there were rumors that Nic was attached to play Liberace?
I completely missed the boat on this! I didn't realize that Michael Douglas will play him! This is one of those movies that I would have really liked to have seen go through with our guy Nic! Too bad. I think Nic and Matt Damon (who will play Liberace's love interest) would have been amazing together. What's interesting is, i've read that the Michael Douglas/Matt Damon/Liberace vehicle is not the same as Nic's Liberace vehicle in which Nic intended upon starring and directing. THAT'S HOLLYWOOD!!
Isn't it unreal? I've got so much Nic to look forward too (i.e. Medallion, Trespass, Seeking Justice, The Croods), I'm still not statisfied - LOL!!!!!!!!!!! I'm wayyyyy to greedy for Nic!!!!

Cage Confirmed As Liberace Favourite
LATEST: NICOLAS CAGE has been confirmed as the favourite to play camp showman LIBERACE in a new movie musical. The actor has been linked to the role for years, but now screenwriters JASON FRIEDBERG and AARON SELTZER have confirmed Cage is in talks to show off his musical skills as the late pianist. Speaking at the Sundance Film Festival, where the writers are promoting their new comedy EPIC MOVIE, Seltzer says, "We met with Nicolas Cage last year and he really wanted to star in it; he wanted to direct himself in it too."
Steven Soderbergh is in the early stages of developing a biopic about Liberace for Warner Bros., which he will direct.
The filmmaker said he has drafted his "Traffic" star Michael Douglas to play the flamboyant pianist.
Richard LaGravanese is writing the script, and Jerry Weintraub will produce.
Soderbergh is in discussions with Matt Damon to play Scott Thorson, who sued Liberace in 1982 for $113 million in palimony, claiming he was the entertainer's companion for five years. Even though Liberace never wavered from career-long denials that he was gay, Thorson reportedly settled for $95,000 in 1986.

I do remember this being mentioned years agoGina! I agree Nic would have been amazing in this role, because, in my view, his particular talents as an actor are to be able to bring many levels simultaneously to a character...the role of flamboyant and charming public Liberace, with his turbulent inner world and private life would be a thrill to see him portray. I still look forward to seeing this film though, and i am sure Michael Douglas will bring his own unique stengths to the role.
There are many roles Nic nearly played that I would have liked to see happen, 'the Sadhu' with Deepak Chopra is top of my list!
I dont remember this roumor, but i remember about 2 or 3 years ago i read that he would be with will smith in time share it was supposed to be a comedy and i was tottally amazed. but unfortunately they dont come togehter would be a vey cool cooparation i guess. seems like the whole project was cancelled.

I really wish Nic could have done the movie called Riot.Back in 2008 there were rumors that Nic would star in it with Weston. What a fantastic collaboration it would be,if the father and his son could be in a movie together!
Hi voodoo child, NICe to see you agani! Yes, John Carpenter's Riot wsa an exciting prospect at the time, I recall from an interview Nic was also disappointed that didn't happen.
I agree it woud be wonderful to see a movie with Nic and Weston together (in a more major role than Lord Of War) there was a rumour earlier this year!
