Nicolas Cage Is On Fire, Literally! The Five Best Flaming Cage Movies
Nicolas Cage has a fiery personality. Okay, that might not be true. We don’t know the guy personally. But it certainly seems to us as though he’s got a certain affinity with fire, dying in fires, or simply controlling the element as we’ve seen in many of his previous films. He’s got a few new movies coming down the pipeline for the new year, most notably Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, hitting theaters February 17th, so in honor of the next Ghost Rider outing here are five of Nic’s fiery best — from burning up in a warehouse to taking a fledgling sorcerer under his wings, we can tell he’s a real firebug.
Kick-Ass (2010)
After crime boss Frank D’Amico (Mark Strong) storms one of Big Daddy’s safehouses (Cage channeling Adam West), the hero is captured by the band of thugs meaning to unmask Kick-Ass via live Internet stream. Though the charming Hit-Girl (Chloe Moretz) arrives just in time to seemingly save the day, it’s too late, as one of the gnarly thugs has lit her father on fire. Hit-Girl and Big Daddy share a heartbreaking farewell as the burns bring about a slow death. A tearjerker, for sure.
The Wicker Man (2006)
Edward Malus (Cage) is a cop investigating the disappearance of his daughter on a mysterious island teeming with female neo-pagans. The population relies on the production of honey, and the inhabitants of the island have a plan to ensure the dry spell will soon come to an end. Of course Malus is integral to their wicked plans, and after having both his legs broken and stuffed into a giant wicker man, soon meets his end as he is burned alive. The drone must die!
The Sorcerer’s Apprentice (2010)
Cage stars as Balthazar Blake, a sorcerer for modern times. He doesn’t meet a fiery end as demonstrated in the previous cuts, but he has control over the element of fire. Slinging fireballs, causing blazing infernos, you know. Those kinds of hobbies. Perhaps we’re seeing more of the true Nic Cage here, pyromaniac as he is.
Drive Angry (2011)
Cage may not have been burned alive or blessed with spellcasting abilities, but in 2011′s raucous, messy action flick Drive Angry, he’s John Milton, a reformed career criminal who has actually returned from Hell in order to avenge the death of his daughter. “The only good thing he ever did in his life” freed Milton from the bonds of the fiery inferno just to seek revenge. Hell. Fire. You follow? Great.
Ghost Rider (2007)
We’ll spell it out for you. Ghost Rider, or as you may know him, Johnny Blaze, is actually perpetually on fire. Not sure this needs further explanation.
What fiery demise and/or career choice will Nicolas Cage tackle next? You can be sure we’ll let you know once we’re briefed on the situation.
