Ahahaha! Had to buy one of these when I saw it in the gift shop at the hospital today! I have never heard of the Christmas Pickle before, how did I miss this! This will be my only Christmas decoration this year, lol!
I just had to comment on this post! In my house, we've been doing the "Christmas Pickle" for about 16 years now......we started when I was on the board of a children's advocacy organization and met a woman who was of German heritage. For some reason....when Christmas approached that year she gave me two "pickles" to hang in our tree, telling me to hide them well in the tree and then have the kids do a treasure hunt for them. If they found their pickle in the tree, they could open a present early. My daughter was still a toddler then so I remember having to help her find her pickle. My son was about 4 and the first time he searched for his pickle he almost knocked the tree down! LOL! And believe it or not.....both kids still ask me every year if we're going to "DO" the pickle!
Sweet little tradition if you ask me......
Anyhoooo........if I don't post between now and Christmas.....may I wish each and every one of you a lovely Thanksgiving and wonderful Christmas. God Bless! Bonnie
This is very interesting, Fay White. Thank you for sharing your wonderful family-chistmas-tradition with us.
There isn`t such a tradition in our family. I suppose, the christmas pickle is a tradition from the eastgerman "Spreewald"-region. This region is famous for his pickles.
In our family we have a traditonal meal, that we eat on christmas eve, before opening the presents. And, a special kind of cake is eaten during the holidays.
