as i watcehd it for the millionth time last night..i was struck a what an epic film opening it is!! 10 mins of it before the opening credits and that theme song!!!
I also love Barton Fink, Fargo and Lebowski... but none of them are quite as warm as Raising Arizona, which is amazing considering it's dealing with bank robbery and child theft!! I think it's their most humanistic film.
I think Hi's voice overs add to the charm of the movie for me, his old fashioned and thoughtful flowery phrases that reveal so much more than his actions do.
Yeah, they do (on the whole at least!) They are very good as mannered, but convincing dialogue. Also they remind me of American writers like Mark Twain... tellers of tall tales who are interested in regional ways of talking (Raising Arizona is the mid-West).
But, he has a good heart and kind of knows, what`s right and wrong. He also loves his wife, as he kidnapps the baby. You can see clearly his conflict, because he actually doesn`t want to do this.
