Brian Taylor, Co-director of Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance, on Nicolas Cage, Feb 2012
"What you hear a lot is, "it's crazy Nic". It's not really Nic being crazy, he's incredibly focussed and cerebral, he knows exactly what he's doing. And no matter how 'over the top' and 'balls to the wall' and outrageous those moments can be, right in the middle of it you can always say, "ok, if that was an 8 let's see what a 7 is like", or, "let's go from 7 and let's take that up to 10 just on this line". and he gets it, he does it exactly. He's so disciplined even in his maddest moments, we never think of it as crazy Nic, we think of it as Nic bringing what the scene needs."
"Nic behaves erratically AND is a consummate pro - these things are not mutually exclusive with him. he shows up with ancient egyptian voodoo artifacts in one hand and an oscar in the other. a beast among men."
"his continued passion and intensity in his approach - after all these years - is unf***ingbelievable. he's an inspiring dude."
"Nic cage is one of the most extraordinary individuals i've met."
These are wonderful quotes from Brian Taylor! Thy make me very happy to read them. I must say we have been spoiled during this Ghost Rider promotional time.
we sure don't nicschix, whatever "crazy" means in the first place ! I think the SNL skit recently higlighted that this stereotype of Nic is just that a caricature based on only one dimension of is acting that does not represent Nic, but you are right to point that out..none of us know the man we only know his characters. For me as a fan I am very clear on that, which is why I question people who say that Nic is in his characters.
Spike Jonze on directing Nicolas Cage in 'Adaptation'
"You know what was wild about working with Nic on that movie, was that he just gave himself over completely. I asked him when we were in rehearsal how he liked to work and how he liked to be directed and he said, completely genuinely, "I want to work however you work."'
