Univison cameras didn´t miss a single thing from the moment he arrived until he said his goodbyes. We noticed he´s a very serious person, and a true professional. He never lets joking interfere with his job. He came to Despierta América specifically to promote his newest film Ghostrider, Spirit of Vengeance. During commercial breaks he didn´t talk much, but was really kind to us. Have a look at his huge ring! How much money do you think this gold and diamond jewel is worth? Hmm, I think nobody worked that one out. And after he drank a whole mug of Cuban coffee which Karla gave him, he left the set to carry on with the promo of his newest film, not before posing for a souvenir picture with all Despierta América anchors. Nicolas Cage had Cuban coffee, despite warnings, in Despierta América. The actor visited Univision to promote his latest film Ghost Rider and accepted the cup of coffee Karla presented him with. Check out everybody´s reaction when he drank it in one gulp. Nicolas Cage was very punctual to arrive in the Despierta América set, dressed up like a lord. The Oscar winner sat down placidly to chat with Karla, Poncho, Chiqui y Raúl about his film Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, which is due on February 10. Always the perfect hostess, Karla was brave enough to offer him a cup of Cuban coffee. “Did you ever drink Cuban coffee?” “No.” said Nicolas, and he instantly wanted to try it because he really needed it at that early morning hour. Karla gave him not the customary little cup, but a half mug, but warned her guest that he should drink it slowly and advised to not finish it off because it was a long drink (Note: Cuban coffee is noticeably stronger than your usual North American or Northen European coffee). Nicolas looked at the mug and listened to her recommendations but, as it seems, he wan in great need and he finally drank it all in one gulp. Raúl taught him how to say the right idiomatic expression in Spanish after this super-shot of caffeine, and they yelled in unison “Azúcar!” (Note: Cubans say “Sugar!” a lot, it´s sort of like your “Way to go”). But Nicolas Cage´s visit to Univison was centered around his latest film Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. “This film is different from all my previous ones in that cameramen, the crew filming it risked their lives to show you all a good time. They grab a camera while riding a bike with their other hand, or while suspended by cables on a cliff. If you only could see how these people risk their lives, you´d be amazed”, said Nicolas about the professionalism shooting this movie. Nicolas, who won an Oscar for his work in Leaving Las Vegas, had to confront Poncho´s question about which film genre was his favorite. “I like them all. I love a good script in the dramatic genre, and all the excitement in the action genre. I love making these two kind of movies.” “Is there something in particular you´d like to do?” “Well I like all sort of movies, but I´d really love to do a musical.” How do you like that? We are positive that Nicolas Cage wouldn´t disappoint his fans in this one, because he´s not bad at singing rancheras... (Note: a ranchera is a traditional Mexican song). __________________

Our wonderful Dame Ragnelle has once again gifted us wth her translating genius, of the complete Univision interview! thank you, Mara! "We´re still here having a chat, now with one of Hollywood´s greats, Nicolas Cage, who will tell us about his latest movie Ghost Rider 2, Spirit of Vengeance. We know, Nicolas, that there is an adrenaline rush in this movie. Your character Johnny Blaze lives on the edge all the time. What gives you an adrenaline rush?" "I´m one of those people who, when they´re doing action scenes or drinking coffee or doing something dangerous, get into slow motion and feel relaxed. So I think maybe spending some time with my wife would get me an adrenaline rush instead". "Also Cuban coffee [gets you an adrenaline rush]. Look, here´s your Cuban coffe". "It´s my first time [trying it] We´ll see if it relaxes me or if it thrills me". "A promise is a promise. Let me explain to you: you normally drink Cuban coffee in this tiny cup, but since we´re on TV and I know you need a little bit more of the stuff I just filled half this mug. It´s black coffee, no milk, no nothing, so it will wake you up but good! Enjoy!" "All of it?" "No! No way! Just a sip, a little bit". "This feels like Ghost Rider 3". "Hey, don´t drink it up! Don´t! Don´t! Oh my God!" "Wow!" "How do you feel?" "Wonderful". "Yay! Excellent! The only thing left is for you to say: AZUCAR! [=Sugar!]". "AZUCAR!" "Let´s talk about the movie now. The first installment of Ghost Rider was packed with action scenes and FX, but what was the real challenge for you when you played both these characters, the Ghost Rider and Johnny Blaze?" "Well, the biggest difference in this movie is, when I was the Ghost Rider in all the action scenes I was right there and had to work out how to reach for a motion style that enabled me to showcase a character from another dimension. His point of reference is just not human, he´s driven by a spirit of vengeance, he´s a fallen angel who became corrupted by hell. I wanted things to glide and was thinking about cobras and how they dance backward and forward before they come and attack you. I wanted the Ghost Rider to move precisely that way". [The anchors laugh because Nic´s gestures show how the Cuban coffee is already getting to him] "In fifteen minutes you will be hating me... [for giving you that coffee mug]". "In fact I´m very grateful to you. I had asked for coffee when I arrived in the set anyway, so everything´s fine by me. That´s the main difference in the Ghost Rider role, thanks for asking me about that". "I have already said that this movie scares me a little, it´s got some terror about it. Didn´t you get nightmares at night?" "Good. I think this is the idea, we want the Ghost Rider to frighten you, we can´t have a super hero with a flaming skull withouth scaring you. It must be a scary experience all the way, that´s what makes him different from the rest of super heroes in the comic strips, none of them resembles him". "You´re crazy about comic books. This is a sequel, but what went through your mind when you first received the script of Ghost Rider?" "Well, the script I had a little bit to do with. I wanted the Ghost Rider to work inside the Church, I thought that was an interesting concept. When I was promoting the first Ghost Rider film in London I went to Westminster Abbey and met the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Pope of the Greek Orthodox Church who was in his clerical dress, while I was in black leather from head to toe. And he said he was interested in the concept of the Rider working for the Church, so I had to work out how to write a script that could further that idea. For me, the concept of a Ghost Rider assisting the Church in Europe was different, an original approach to the character". "Nicolas, you´ve been lucky enough to have much diversity in your career, you´ve played a lot of characters and all of them are dissimilar. Do you feel there is still a character in store for you that represents a challenge?" "You know, there´s all kind of movies I´m excited about making. I like the idea of a change in genre, I like playing different characters and drama... but I never did a musical yet. I think I´d love that, I´m not a great singer, but I´d go for it". "Well, here in Despierta América [Wake up, America] we will ask you for the scoop when you make up your mind. We wish you best of luck even though you already are a success. I thought that too Meg! So...how intriguing that the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Pope of the Greek Orthodox Church were the trigger for Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance! well, we know Johnny Blaze can handle his coffee but Cuban coffee you can stand your spoon up in it's so strong! __________________
