The Croods is the next project from Chris Sanders, the cult animation director who worked on Lilo & Stitch and How To Train your Dragon, and Kirk DeMicco, a screenwriter on the in-development Hong Kong Phooey film. In earlier iterations, it was an Aardman animation called Crood Awakening and with John Cleese on the writing staff but… well, things like that change, in animation, and Chris Sanders will know that better than most.
Not much has been seen of the film so far, outside of some fuzzy shots of a poster at a licensing show, but a Little Bleeder sent me this nice quality image. Click through to make it nice and big.
Some of those characters will be getting voices from Nicolas Cage, Ryan Reynolds, Emma Stone, Catherine Keener and Cloris Leachman. I think it’s fairly easy to match them up.
Accompanying the poster was this new, official blurb for the film:
The Croods takes us back to the beginning – to a previously undiscovered era known as the Croodacious – a time when Mother Nature was still experimenting and the flora and fauna we know today had yet to evolve. At the heart of this comically chaotic world is the Crood family, led by Grug, an over-protective father who, like all dads, is doing everything he can to hold his family together as the world around them changes at a dramatic pace. The Croods is scheduled for release in the spring of 2013.
That sounds okay, sure, but I have to be honest: they had me at Chris Sanders.
It has been such a long tie coming, fantastic to be seeing some early artwork for the Croods!
It would think that is Grug at the front there too, Lady T! Cannot help but be curious at the kind of caveman character he will portray... knowing Nic not the stereotypical one (hopefully so too!) and you cannot help but wonder about the voice he will use, especially it being his only intrument in an animation!
On a side note..a HONG KONG PHOOEY film? oh my! how cool is that! fond memories of the tv prog as a child!! Right up there with Rubarb and Custard, Danger Mouse, Wacky Races and Scooby Doo!
Hi Cristina, NICe to see you within th castle walls! Wow, 2 poster in one day, what a treat, thank you for sharing! I wonder if we will begin to see more on this film now? I do enjoy the animatoins Nic has voiced, they all have amazing stories.
According to IMdB, he provides the voice for Grug, and I suppose, it is the big guy in the front of both posters, the head of the family. Thanks for posting this two posters, Lady T. and Cristina! :) I hope, there will be more infos soon about it!

Thank you Lady T and Cristina and you Lula, for keeping the rest of us informed on The Croods surely it will be another sublime animation Nic has been in, also this could be my cousin's cup of tea
There is certainly alot of anticipation for this movie, it feels like yers, which i think it literally has been, since it was first mooted!
Indeed Tues..... and an interesting change of gear for the Nicolas Cage vehicle, one to look forward to! I take it your cousin likes Nics' animations?
Sorry Lula, just noticed this. Actually, there are 3 members in my family appreciate Nic's acting very much - my father's younger sis' son, younger bro's daughter and and me. I was a little shocked when my elder male cousin highly recommended his friend to watch G-Force. Once he told me he watched more than 40 movies Nic had acted and he thought Nic was awesome. So I thought The Croods will be his cup o tea
This movie looks so cute. I can't wait for it to come on. And it really doesn't matter what voice Nic uses. We will recogonize it right off the bat.
