Last night, I saw Adaptation for the first time! And, oh my! What a brilliant and outstanding performance! I really enjoyed, watching our genius MaverNIC in that double role! WOW! Although, that kind of genre is not really my fave, but I was really fascinated by his amazing performance! That movie has so many twist and turns and so many layers to it (typical for a Nic-movie), that I totally enjoyed it! The total different personalities of the two brothers, one insecure and selfloabing, the other confident and happy, was really interesting! And, then Meryl Streep as Susan Orlean. The reporter of "the New Yorker", who gets fascinated by that smart man, who doesn`t look very attractive, because of his "hillbilly"-outfit and the loss of some of his front teeth, but impresses her with his knowledge about life, Darwin, flowers and especially Orchids! As the movie goes on, we get to know, why he lost his teeth and why he is so fascinated by orchids, especially, the ghost orchid. Then, when the movie focus back to the Kaufman-brothers, we get a little bit an insight, how it must be as an screenwriter in the movie industry of hollywood, especially, when adapting a book, that doesn`t look fascinating at first, and the imagination of the screenwriter is needed. In his desperation, to find an interesting story, Charly struggles with himself, if he can do it at all! But, when he finally gets to work with his brother Donald together, and with tips from the screenwriter, from whom Charly refuses at first, to seek help, and who held a seminar in New York, he finally manages to finish the script!
It is difficult, to explain all details of that awesome movie, so many stories in the story itself, that it`s impossible to write it all down in that review! So, I recomment every Fan, who hasn`t seen it yet, to watch it and see for himself!
My resume: With this movie, Nic had outdone himself, and mastered another level of his genius, maverNIC, nuoveau shamaNIC acting style! It is def worth seeing it! "You are, what you love, and not, what loves you!" Ten stars out of ten from me:

Wow, the best word I can think of to describe this review is WONDERFUL, falling in love with Adaptation again. I agree Adaptation has been undervalued by the critics. Thank you for sharing your incredible review for Adaptation Roxy, i really enjoy it very much
Whoop! you acted very quickly on that Lady R! So glad you have seen Adaptation now!
Thank you for sharing your personal experience upon watching it for the first time! There are lots of levels to this movie, as there are with so many of Nics' films. The dual role of Charlie / Donald earned Nic an Academy Award, Golden GLobe, BAFTA nom for best actor, (should have won it in my opinion), with a host of other award noms and winning the toronto Film Critic Association Award for best actor.
I don't think I said the film was undersung, it is often referred to by many as one of Nic' s best films, highly recommendable that all Nic fans to watch it immeditatley without delay!
Excellent choice of movie to review Lady R, as Nic has been nominated for an Academy Award for only 2 of his movies. One was "Leaving Las Vegas" where he actually one the Oscar, and the other was for "Adaptation." Though he didn't win, I will agree with most critics, Nic certainly should have one!
This movie was indeed deep and what an amazing supporting cast, Meryl Streep, Chris Cooper, and unknowns back in 2002 like Tilda Swinton and Maggie Gyllenhaal. Brilliant movie!
I almost forgot Lady R, I went to a private screening of Adaptation several years back and they were giving out some goodies. The one I use often, because I love to read is the Adaptation bookmarker. I took a few pictures of it.
The names are a bit blurry cuz I'm not the best photographer but they read in this order:
Nicolas Cage
Meryl Streep
Chris Cooper
