And Nic and Jim Carrey in the same film for the first time since PSGM would be EPIC
I wonder if anyone has politely pestered Mr Mark Millar on twitter yet for a definitive answer.....if I stop feeling so twitter shy I may give it a go.
With only a few more days until cameras start rolling on Kick-Ass 2, the movie’s production has now hit a breakneck pace, trying to get all of its ducks in a row. While many of the first film’s major players have already been tapped to reprise their roles, a few newcomers have also been added to the mix including Donald Faison (Doctor Gravity) and John Leguizamo (Red Mist’s bodyguard Javier). Still, as with any good sequel, there were many more roles to go around, a few of which had yet to be filled.
The newest rumor was that Universal was very interested in casting Jim Carrey for the role of The Colonel, better known to Kick-Ass fans as Colonel Stars. At the time, it seemed like a perfect role for Carrey, who most recently wrapped production on The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, and now it appears Universal may have gotten their wish.
Yesterday, Wadlow took to Twitter – as he has been doing in the days leading up to production – to confirm that the film had found its Colonel. Since this is obviously a major role, Wadlow didn’t announce the specific casting in 140 characters, but he provided a telling hint as to who it might be:
”6 days till we start shooting… and we officially have our Colonel. Alrighty f’n then!”
It’s still not an outright confirmation by anyone at Universal that Jim Carrey has been cast, but the inclusion of “Alrighty f’n then” is very telling. Any fan of Carrey’s will recognize the signature catch phrase of Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, a role that put the former In Living Color player on the map.
Since it’s the weekend, and a holiday weekend at that, we don’t expect any confirmation right now but, given the tease, we’re pegging Jim Carrey as having accepted the role. Like Nicolas Cage in the first film, Carrey will likely deliver a goofy superhero character – with a “badass” demeanor.
This wouldn’t mark the first time Carrey has starred in a big budget superhero flick, though; back in 1995 he took on the role of The Riddler for Joel Schumacher’sBatman Forever, a part that asked him to essentially play an exaggerated version of the characters he’d been playing. Colonel Stars, on the other hand, falls more in line with an aggressive military type, than a strictly comedy-fueled villain.
In the Kick-Ass 2 comic (subtitled Balls to the Wall) Colonel Stars is a member of Justice Forever, a ‘poor man’s Justice League‘ formed by the series’ heroes. In addition to being a masked vigilante like Kick Ass and Hit Girl, Stars has close ties to the first comic series’ villain John Genovese – who was renamed Frank D’Amico for the films and played by Mark Strong. Colonel Stars, unlike D’Amico’s son Chris (now operating under the pseudonym Red Mist) was able to get out of the mafia racket, and find solace in Justice Forever.
This is a film adaptation, however, so expect some deviation to exist in Wadlow’s script, but we hope he preserves Mark Millar and John Romita’s character as best he can. Considering there are several actors we’d love to see Carrey reunite with – most obviously his Dumb and Dumber co-star Jeff Daniels – there’s also the hope Lieutenant Stripes, Stars’ brother, will also be included in the film.
As we mentioned before, Kick-Ass 2 begins filming in just a few short days so expect more casting from the film’s production, including confirmation of Carrey as The Colonel, soon.
Kick-Ass2 is slated for a June 28, 2013 release date.
I suppose, you are refering to the "Big Daddy"-costume, Lady T.? Well, it seems, as if this pic confirmes, that he will be in the second part!Thank you, for posting it!

Mark Millar himself has confirmed Jim Carrey...but it remains ambiguous on Nic being in it?! In this post on his own forum, he also talks about what Nic brought to the character Big Daddy in the first movie!
Matthew Vaughn, Jeff Wadlow and I did a conference call with Jim a couple of weeks back and we've been itching to talk about this ever since because the energy Jim's going to bring to Colonel Stars has me buzzing as much as Nic Cage with Big Daddy. You have to remember that Big Daddy's role before Cage came on was a much more straightforward bad-ass. It was Nic who gave him that Adam West delivery and brought this incredible warmth to the character, especially with regard to Mindy.
Nic is really good friends with Jim Carrey and it's well known to everyone that Jim loved the first movie. In fact, I think he had lunch with Vaughn the day before that Conan O'Brien kick-Ass/ Superman duet you can see in the link. So we've been talking very informally about this for a little over two years now. We didn't quite know what Jim was going to be doing in the sequel, but the entire team loves him to bits and I've been a fan since I first saw him. I remember reading an interview with Spielberg, a great one back in Empire for a JAws anniversary, where he was saying that Jim would be his choice for Chief Brodie were he shooting Jaws now. He said he could see the brilliant dramatic range Jim had as well as the comedy people knew him for at that time. For all these reasons, combined with the conversation we had with him on the phone, I'm so genuinely excited about this. I can't wait to see what he does once the cameras are on.
So as you can see from the online reports there's a Hell of a cast shaping up here. The movie runs from Hit-Girl #1 to Kick-Ass 2 #7 and fans of the comic will know that the part of Uncle Ralphie is still to be announced. He's the big-bad from the Hit-Girl series and you, my friends, are in for a treat.
But this is all incredibly cool. Millarworld has had two movies released so far and several in various stages of production right now (another one starts shooting in the New Year). But I think this is the closest to starstruck I've been on anything so far. LOVE Jim Carrey. Can't wait to meet him at Pinewood.
I wonder if he is in Toronto now, TIFF is starting soon there too, so lots of stars. If his part is only small and a flashback he may not have to be there when the major shooting is going on.
They have been filming for a few weeks now. I have been following Jeff Wadlow, the director of Kick Ass 2, on twitter, and he has been posting some tweets and pictures of some aspects of the filming so far, no pics of Nic though. You can follow him here.
