Finally, I recently had a chance to speak with director Simon West and I understand that Stolen, the movie you did with him and Nic Cage, will be released on September 14th. What was your experience like working with West and Oscar-winner Nicolas Cage?
Lucas: That's a big, tough, interesting action movie in every way. The character could not be more different from RedDog. He's just an absolute, nasty badass. A lot of it was just the joy of eating the scenery. I got to basically be NicolasCage in aNicolasCage movie if you know what I mean. I got to be the one who is … you know, I heard this great thing that someone once said about NicolasCage movies. That every line is whispered or screamed and everything is on fire. Well in this case I was the one screaming every single line and setting everything on fire. It was just kind of chewing the scenery, balls out wonderful fun the whole time. Simon is a really antithetical action director in the sense that he's just a really nice guy who's obviously deeply talented, but he doesn't have that kind of badass pushing you to the point of uncomfortable-ness problem that I think a lot of big action directors do. Plus, I'm just a massive fan of NicolasCage. I think he's one of our great actors and absolutely a guy, who I really felt while working with, a great compassion for and a great sense of someone who cranks out these movies, like some of the wonderful movies he’s done with CharlieKaufman. You go back through his career, and I mean its just great performance after performance after performance. You know, he talked a lot about that. He said, "I just love acting and I love working. I don't know why people sometimes have a problem with me working all the time because I love to do that." I said to him, I get it brother.
I love that you got to out-Cage Nicolas Cage!
Lucas: He actually told me that I have the NicolasCage part in this movie. I said, I think you might be right about that.
That is a great interview! Sounds, as if "Stolen" will be another masterpiece of our master of acting! Looking forward to watch Josh Lucas, how he will be "out-Cageing Nicolas Cage"! lol ^^Thanks for posting it, Lula! :)
