I am a controversial message poster on these boards.  Being a Realist at times gets me scrutenized to the highest degree sometimes, but I don't mind.  Staying along those lines, I have been a Nicolas Cage fan for decades and he continues to be my favorite actor despite a rough run throughout the years.  I was wondering if any of you fellow NicFans were wondering when he is going to put out his First Epic film.  Nicolas has been in a slew of my favorite films, but I have yet to see him make his mark in an Epic Picture that Trumps him as an Actor......where the storyline and fellow actors get lost in  the film itself.  At times Nicolas seems to be the focal point too much and a film doesn't get fleshed out.  Tom Hanks has Cast Away and Forest Gump, Denzel has Glory, Daniel Day Lewis has Gangs of NY, Lincoln and Last of the Mohechians.......where is Nic's Epic?  Nicolas has always starred in smaller pictures like Adaptaion, LLV, BL:POCNO and Vampires Kiss.  But I don't see a Pure Epic Film with Scope Etc......BTW, the NT films don't count since they are a General Audience picture.  Cheers CLC

That's a very good question. I've always thought Windtalkers was pretty good...but since you didn't list Saving Private Ryan for Tom...I'm thinking 20th century war flix aren't your cuppa tea.

Perhaps Mr. Cage is more comfortable with smaller productions, more intimate. He seems to love taking on things other people have no interest in. He seems to love playing the oddball. I have good feelings about Frozen Ground. Let's see if that's his 'epic'.

Actually, I meant to mention Saving Private Ryan pertaining to Tom Hanks' Epic Films.  I think Windtalkers was great but it was still an action film disguised as a War Drama.  John Woo isn't Spielberg.....just saying.  I am glad Nicolas enjoys doing smaller films, but I think he should go Over the Top and do Roger Corman esque films if he wants to have a B Movie type Twilliight to his career.  I think having other Big Names attatched to star next to Nicolas are Over.  I am okay with that however.  I would like to see Nic in a film with Val Kilmer again or Mickey Rourke or Sam Rockwell.  CLC.....Cheers.

I think Nic's time is coming for the epic film.  He has several irons in fire right now and who knows what will happen to any of them.  Personally, I looking at "Left Behind."  That has the potential to be a big film.  However for now, it's a well see thing.

I agree that Left Behind perhaps could be an Epic Film for Nicolas.  I am not really into the Christian/Biblical type films since Iam Non Religious, but that doesn't mean Left Behind won't be a great picture.  It seems that Period Pieces are films that turn out to be Epic Films.  Gladiator was for Russel Crowe, Spartacus for Kirk Douglas and Braveheart for Mel Gibson.  Iam not sure Nicolas has the look or build for that type of film.  As in he is tall and has a long face where as the Above Mentioned actors are stocky and have a fuller facial structure that fits those characters.  I have semi high hopes for Outcast, but Hayden Christiansen doesn't enstill much confidence.  Also, being a Romantic Period piece leave me with reservations.  Now if Rob Zombie were directing the picture and Nicolas was the Fu Manchue Character from the Death Proof and Planet Terror trailer then I would Buy in Fully.  We will see however.  I am looking forward to the film Joe and Marble City however.  Nic news is slow around here.....I always enjoy tossing around interesting topics here and there.  Cheers.....

What about Moonstruck ? It had a great cast. I've seen it many times, it never gets old.

I am in no way saying Nicolas hasn't been in films with great casts.  All of his films have A List Talent across the board.  All I am saying is that when the general movie fans look back through the microscope of time.......I don't see Nicolas having that WOW Epic Film that he can hang his hat on.  I wish he did because I enjoy his work so much, but I can't think of a film that people mentioin that have really Epic or Wide Range Cult Classic attatched to them.  To a limited degree, films like Valley Girl, Raising Arizona Vampires Kiss , LLV, Moonstruck, 8mm Adaptation and BL:POCNO have a Cult Following in the view of Nicolas Fans and that is good enough for me.  Cheers......I just want to see a film resurrect Nics career like Pulp Fiction did for John Travolta.  I think the Film Joe and Frozen Ground will do that for Nicolas.  CLC
