Nicolas Cage returns

After a year of being out of the spotlight, actor Nicolas Cage returns to the big screen in David Gordon Green's Joe, an indie film based on Larry Brown's 1992 novel.

During the week of South by Southwest, in Austin, Cage, alongside Green and a few of the cast members, hit the red carpet to talk about their individual experiences with their new film, Joe .

Cage, who was off the radar for a year, says he was waiting for the right script to come along.

"Well, I waited about a year to find the right script. I was very selective, and when I read [this version] I knew right away it was something where I wouldn't have to act...I could deliver the dialogue that was written in a way that was more truthful," said Cage.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Cage plays Joe, an ex-con who sticks up for an innocent, hard working teenage boy, Gary (Mud's Tye Sheridan). After the boy joins Joe's work crew, Joe realizes his father who's played by Gary Poulter, threatens to smother all that is innocent.

Sheridan, who has worked with several Hollywood icons such as Matthew McConaughey in the filmMud, says it was a blast working with both Cage and Green on set.

"David is great because he's really open...and he likes to talk things out and brainstorm. And Nick is just very professional," said Sheridan.

The film has appeared in several film festivals, but does not have a U.S release date. EW states that Roadside Attractions is planning a 2014 release.
